With broken hearts we bring you sad news this morning… our senior girl, Nala, has crossed over the rainbow bridge 💔
Nala came into our rescue just a few months ago. A senior girl, it was abundantly clear she had suffered neglect for much of her life. A mess physically, we got her going in the right direction and put her into training, something, we doubt, she’d never known. She stole everyone’s hearts she met along her journey with us and we are so thankful she spent her last few months with us.
Nala passed in the arms of love with her foster mum and a member of the SWB board. Run free girl – free of your past life … We miss your happy feet dance – we love you 💔🐾
Special Thank you to: HuffmanK9 – you guys are top-notch ; VCA Salem Animal Hospital; Pet Village, Ltd – We know Nala left prints on all of your hearts as well 🐾🐾
Nala – End of Watch – 05/22/2021
Nala is approximately 8-years-young. She is microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative (on prevention). She crates well and is housebroken. She walks well on a leash. We do not know much about Nala’s past life, we only know she was confiscated as a possible neglect case by the police and was then surrendered to the shelter. She was in pretty rough shape with multiple skin issues, a mass on her leg (removed) and was undernourished (her body score was 2/9). It appears Nala has had multiple litters of puppies and overall, most likely, has not had a good life. Nala was pulled from the shelter (by another organization) and returned previously and then was adopted and returned to the shelter (allergies). Her rescue journey has been long… she deserves love
Once she was pulled from our friends at Marion County Shelter (Salem, Oregon), we discovered that Nala had a case of “stranger danger” to other people coming into her home. Shepherds Without Borders rescue believes in standing behind our dogs and providing the BEST for each of them. Because we wanted to give Nala the tools to overcome her fears and give her a strong base of obedience training, she was enrolled in a 2 week board and train at Huffman K9 in Canby, Oregon. SHOUT OUT to the PAWSOME trainers at Huffman!
Nala has spent a week in the immersion program (entering into her second week) and has done EXCELLENT!! Her circle of trust has opened up and her obedience is getting spot on – she knows sit, down, heel, come and leave it! Nala will need a calm and quiet home or would be great as a long-haul traveling companion. She would prefer to be the only dog in her home and is reportedly not good with cats. We do not know how long Nala has left of her life, but we do know she has lots of love to give and needs a happy ending to her journey. Can YOU give Nala the loving home she so deserves?
